The Punctuated Gaze – Disturbed in One’s Own Thoughts

Video-installation 2009
Projection on three walls – Two image-based and one text-based

The video installation The Punctuated Gaze – Disturbed in One’s Own Thoughts is carried by a voiceover, which to some extent is detached from the image of a façade. We hear a woman whose gaze has been sharpened as she has realised what the beautiful facades hide. Viewing is a bodily event, and Meander’s character attempts to read the soul of Frederiksberg through her experiences
and memories. The inhabitants have left their traces, and the facades protect their content in private space(s). The voice reveals different emotional reactions to being an outsider, such as recognition, resignation and paranoia. The work almost becomes a double portrait: of Frederiksberg, of a woman unknown to us.
